LINAGE is an ongoing series of artworks that combine ceramics, metal, and other repurposed materials. Inspired by ancient structures and tribal regalia of Latin American cultures, this is an unstructured exploration of the sacred and the practice of rituals.
Rituals are expressions of the collective conscience; they foster connections among peers while providing a sense of continuity across generations.
We long for rituals in an increasingly fragmented and individualistic society. We also long for the preservation of collective identity, a continuity that tends to be lost with the speediness and changing mood of contemporary life.
LINAGE delves into the continuity aspect by putting together smaller parts to build a bigger corpus. Imperfect ceramic blocks, softly curved square frustum-like shapes, numerous rings, and tinkling coins, all connected in more or less static ways to expand on the necessity for connection and shared meaning-making.
